What does the Bible say?   Does it matter?       (printable one-page summary)
Who is God?   Does he matter?

Is faith or belief relevant to your daily life?
  1. Who is God?
    1. Maker (Owner)
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
Who has first given to me, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine. Job 41:11

    2. Love-Giver (Father)
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:17
    3. Law-Maker (Judge)
So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. Rom 14:12

Point:   God is supreme. I am accountable.

  2. God-Centered Living Leads to Life
    1. One-way road
...it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, Hebrews 9:27
    2. Two rules are best road rules: love God and love others
And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 22:37-40
    3. Perfect obedience
For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it. James 2:10

Point:   There is one way to live and enjoy freedom -- by perfect obedience.

  3. Self-Centered Living Leads to Sin & Death
    1. Sin is disobedience
Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 1 John 3:4
    2. Sin separates you. Attempts to "do" (i.e. be loving, do good, be religious, stop doing wrong) fail.
but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear. Isaiah 59:2
    3. Sin is punished
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Point:   Disobedience is sin. It separates you from God, and enslaves you under God's judgment.

*** Conclusion of Points 1-3?   Are you convinced you're lost?   How do you get right with God? ***

  4. Jesus Christ:   The Way Back to Life
    1. Jesus is the only bridge to God
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21
    2. Jesus obeyed for us
Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:14-15
    3. Jesus takes our penalty
But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:5-6
    4. Jesus is alive, calls us home
"Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. John 14:1-3

Point:   Jesus is the way back to God and life, bridging the gap between our failure and God

  5. Your Response:   Coming Home
    1. God calls you home
Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:19-20
    2. Turn from sin
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! Psalm 51:1-2
    3. Trust in Christ
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Romans 10:9-10

Point:   What is your response? Receive, Reject or Investigate?

*** You can pray to God now.   Confess your sins to him, and ask him to help you put your faith in Jesus Christ. ***
